How to Transform Your Home for Autumn

It’s time to pick your pumpkins, wrap up in a cosy sweater, and switch on Gilmore Girls. Autumn has arrived. While you might be spending more time at home snuggling up with a throw blanket and a hot chocolate, if your home is still clinging to the last vestiges of summer, here is what you can do to transform it into a home ready for this new and much-anticipated season.

Get Out the Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings may have been tucked away for the summer months as people tramped in and out of the house with muddy footwear and sweaty socks. However, now that a chill has started to appear in the air again, you might find yourself longing for an extra layer of warmth in the form of cushions and blankets.

If your feet are starting to freeze, or you live with a condition like Raynaud’s, your home might also benefit from a rug to sink your bare feet in, especially on those frosty mornings. This is nothing compared to the joy of a thick, velvet curtain, though, keeping both the dismal appearance of torrential rain and thunder and lightning out, while trapping warmth within the main hubs of your home. These soft furnishings can also save you from painting each of your walls in an autumnal colour, such as orange, reds, mustards, and browns.

Invest in a Fire Pit

The autumn weather might see you scrambling back inside for cover in the event of rain showers and gales. However, your backyard can often be a crisp and nostalgic place during the coming season, with crunchy orange leaves, pumpkins ready to mix into pie, and beautiful winter pansies and violas, along with berries.

You might be struggling to work out how best to enjoy your outdoor space, though, especially if you are incredibly susceptible to the cold and would rather be indoors wrapped in a dressing gown. In this case, a fire pit could be a transformative feature for you.

A fire pie can give you the ability to gather outside even in the depths of winter, cooking marshmallows as you would around a campfire while keeping the Halloween ghosts and ghouls at bay. There are many different fire pit options around, though, and so you should do your research when choosing a garden fire pit for you and your family.

Light a Scented Candle

There is something about the charming light of a candle that harkens back to autumns past, with their glow brightening up your space, drawing the shadows further away, and leaking hoards of atmosphere into your rooms.

Scented candles can also be incredibly peaceful, filling your house with the traditional smells of the season, such as pumpkin spice or apple pie, without you having to do any baking. There are many candles that can also be used as décor, shaped as ghosts, black cats, pumpkin pies, and hot chocolates, ensuring that even your autumn décor has a function.

Grab Autumn Bouquets

Even in the autumn, you may want to bring the natural world in, and the simplest and easiest way that you can do this is through autumn bouquets. Although you might not think that flowers are amassing in the flowerbeds this season, there is still plenty of life to be found, and nothing better than sprucing up your kitchen or living room with some of this autumn colour. You could also decide to invest in an autumn wreath- or make one of your own- which can welcome visitors in and show off the best of the autumn garden with pride.

Invest in a Fireplace

You can do one better than candles, though: a fireplace. The crackle of a fireplace is unbeatable, and there is nothing better than watching the flames dance on an autumn evening. These fireplaces can light and warm your home relatively inexpensively, and there are plenty of eco-friendly options out there, such as bioethanol burners.

When you are investing in a fireplace, though, you should check that you can find a mantelpiece that matches the décor of your home, not just in autumn, but all year round.

Look at Home Cooking Gadgets

You might be spending a lot of money each week on hot chocolates and seasonal coffees, and this can add up over time. Rather than allowing them to drain your bank account just to get you in the autumn mood, you should consider investing in a high-quality drinks maker for your kitchen.

These can give you coffee shop quality drinks that will leave you unable to tell the difference, for a fraction of the price. However, you will need to remember to clean these out regularly, or else you might find that they stop working. You should also factor the cost of granules, powder, or capsules into this, and you might want to look at reviews and recommendations before settling on the correct coffee maker for you.
