Who Is Samantha Lyne? Everything to Know About J.B. Mauney’s Wife

Samantha Lyne is an American professional barrel racer best known for qualifying for the 2014 National Finals Rodeo (NFR). She is also known as the wife of retired champion bull rider J.B. Mauney and the daughter of rodeo champion Phil Lyne.

Samantha comes from a family with deep roots in rodeo. She has built her own career in barrel racing and competed against some of the leading riders in the sport. She has also been linked with business and social media work.

Quick Facts About Samantha Lyne

Samantha Lyne’s Age and Birthday

Samantha Lyne’s birthday is reported as March 22. However, reliable public information does not clearly confirm her birth year. This means her exact age should not be stated as a confirmed fact.

She was born in the United States and grew up in a family closely connected with horses and professional rodeo.

Her Parents and Rodeo Family

Samantha’s parents are Phil Lyne and Sarah Lyne. Her father is one of the best-known members of her family because of his long career in professional rodeo.

Phil Lyne competed in several rodeo events instead of focusing on only one. He became a five-time world champion across all-around, tie-down roping, and steer roping competition.

His professional achievements stretched across many years. He earned major honors beginning in 1969 and later won another world championship in 1990. He was also inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.

Growing up in this environment gave Samantha early experience around horses, ranch life, rodeo events, and professional competitors.

Samantha Lyne Has a Sister

Samantha reportedly has one sister named Amanda Lyne.

There is limited reliable public information about Amanda’s personal life and career. Samantha has also kept many details about her wider family outside the public spotlight.

Her Education

Samantha attended Texas Christian University (TCU). She reportedly earned a degree in interior design.

Her education is an interesting part of her background because her professional path became closely connected with barrel racing rather than interior design.

Samantha Lyne’s Barrel Racing Career

Samantha is a professional barrel racer and has been associated with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.

Barrel racing requires a rider and horse to complete a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels as quickly as possible. Knocking over a barrel can add a time penalty, so speed, control, and accurate turns are important.

Samantha competed on the professional rodeo circuit for years. Her biggest documented career achievement came in 2014, when she earned a place at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

She Qualified for the 2014 NFR

Samantha qualified for her first National Finals Rodeo in 2014. She entered the finals ranked 14th in the barrel racing world standings.

A profile from that season listed her earnings at $70,577 before the finals and recorded 100 rodeos attended. Her hometown was listed as Cotulla, Texas.

Reaching the NFR placed Samantha among the leading barrel racers of the season. Riders earn their places through results during the regular rodeo season.

The 2014 field included well-known barrel racers such as Lisa Lockhart, Fallon Taylor, and Sherry Cervi.

Samantha recorded one of her better NFR results in Round 9. She finished the run in 13.94 seconds and placed third in the round.

She did not win the world championship that year, but qualifying for the NFR remains one of the clearest achievements of her professional career.

Samantha Lyne’s Horses

Two horses were associated with Samantha during her 2014 NFR season: LK Watch Me Rock and Java Buzz.

LK Watch Me Rock was better known as Pistoletta. The mare was six years old during Samantha’s 2014 season.

Before Samantha rode her, Pistoletta had been worked with by respected barrel racing figures including Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi and LaTricia Duke. Duke reportedly earned an important futurity victory and other results with the mare.

Samantha later competed with Pistoletta and developed her own working relationship with the horse.

Another horse listed for Samantha was Java Buzz, known as Java. Having different horses available can give barrel racers options depending on an arena, ground conditions, and the needs of each horse.

Pistoletta’s Later Influence

Pistoletta remained relevant to barrel racing through her bloodline after her own competition years.

XV Watch Me Rock, a daughter of Pistoletta, later produced a gelding named XV Mario. This made Mario a grandson of Pistoletta.

XV Mario competed with barrel racer Makenna Shook. In August 2025, the pair reportedly recorded a 16.53-second run in Burley, Idaho, which received attention as a notable standard-pattern professional rodeo time.

The connection shows how Pistoletta remained part of the sport through later generations of horses.

Her Training and Riding Equipment

Information from Samantha’s 2014 NFR season also provides some details about how she prepared her horses.

She reportedly used a custom saddle, protective leg boots, and a simple bit. She also mentioned a warm-up approach associated with fellow barrel racer Michele McLeod.

These details provide a small look at Samantha’s working methods during one of the most important seasons of her career.

Samantha Lyne and J.B. Mauney’s Relationship

Samantha Lyne is married to professional bull rider J.B. Mauney.

The two reportedly knew each other through rodeo circles before becoming a couple. Both had direct connections to professional Western sports, although they competed in different events.

Samantha and J.B. married on January 3, 2017.

Their relationship has received public attention because of J.B.’s fame in bull riding, but Samantha already had her own professional rodeo career before their marriage.

J.B. was previously married to Lexie Wiggly. Their marriage reportedly lasted from 2012 until 2015.

His competitive riding career ended after he suffered a serious neck injury in September 2023. He later moved into coaching and became associated with the Oklahoma Wildcatters in the PBR Teams competition.

Samantha and J.B. have remained connected to professional rodeo and Western sports after his retirement from riding.

Samantha remains publicly connected with her family, horses, Western sports, and the rodeo community.
